Odessa
Odessa Opera and Ballet House is the oldest cultural centers in the city.
It was opened on February 10, 1810. In 1873 the theater building was almost completely destroyed by fire, and only in 1881 the Viennese architects F. Felner and G. Helmer built a new theater on this place. Nowadays the theater is recognized as one of the most beautiful buildings in Europe. Here Nikolay Rimskij-Korsakov, Sergey Rakhmaninov, Peter Tchaikovsky presented their masterpieces, Russian “golden voices” Feodor Shalyapin and Leonid Sobinov sang, great ballerina Anna Pavlova danced. Theater building is made in Viennese baroques style, which dominated in European architecture from the end of XVI and to the middle of XVIII centures. The most beautiful part of the theatre is the auditorium in French rococo style.On September 22, 2007 the Opera and Ballet House opened their doors for Odessa public and the guests of the city after 11 year reconstruction.
