Chersoness Taurian is one of the remarkable historic monuments in Ukraine.

Long term excavations have opened to the world the ancient city, which was a big economic, cultural and political center of Northern Black Sea area within two millennia, from V century BC till XV century AD. Its long history constantly intertwined with the history of the tribes living on the south of the modern Ukraine – Tauris, Scythians, Sarmatians – and with the history of Ancient Greece, Rome, Byzantium. From IX cent. AD Chersoness was closely connected with Kyivan Rus.
The new life of Chersoness has begun in 1827 with first archaeological excavations which last, with some breaks, till our days. During the tour you will get acquainted with history and culture of this unique center of human civilization, which was often referred to as Russian Troy in the last century.
You will see the oldest district of the town – port, central town square Ahora with St. Vladimir cathedral; a copper bell located between two huge stone pylons over a breakage on seacoast; Uvarov basilica dated to IV – VI centuries, Chersoness ancient theatre of III cent. BC.
